Canon printers are known for providing quality printing. However, if you own this brand of printer, you also need to know how printer cartridges for Canon function.
Before going too technical, you need to understand what a printer cartridge is. Otherwise called as an ink cartridge, a printer cartridge is the component of an inkjet printer that contains ink which is applied on paper during printing jobs. This component is replaceable every time its ink runs out. Usually, these cartridges have one or more ink reservoir partitions depending on the printer brand and manufacturer.
For most consumer inkjet printers like Canon, HP and Lexmark, each partition in the ink cartridge has a small metal plate called a resistor. During print jobs when the printer receives a signal from the computer, current flows through the resistor. When this warms up, the ink in this ink reservoir or partition vaporizes and is forced into the cartridge nozzle. The droplets of ink that are forced out of the nozzle are spread on paper. This is how files or pictures get printed on paper. This process takes place within milliseconds.
Some printer models or brands have two separate ink cartridges, one for the black ink and the other for the three primary colors. In some printer models, there is a separate cartridge for each of the primary color. In addition, some printers, specifically HP and Lexmark printers, have cartridges that are incorporated with printer heads. Because of this feature, these ink cartridges are more expensive but their printers are more economical. In contrast, other printer cartridges that do not have printer heads are cheaper but the printers themselves are more expensive like Epson and Canon printers.
Consumers should know that all printer manufacturers sell their own type of printer cartridges. These cartridges are designed according to printer specifications. Consumers should beware from using a certain brand of printer ink on a different printer brand since they may not be compatible with each other. An inexpensive alternative in replacing a printer cartridge is by buying “compatible†cartridges.
These cartridges, also called discount ink cartridges, are made according to the standards of the original equipment manufacturer but are not sold using that brand name which is why they are less expensive. However, you cannot find a compatible printer cartridge for all printer models because some of these cartridge designs are patented. So, if you are on the lookout for printer cartridges for Canon, you might want to check if there are compatible printer cartridges for the Canon printer model that you have.
